Money Exchangers Near Me – are you making the most of 2025?

Declan Morton August 27, 2025

It is rare for several factors to bring good news to the travel industry at the same time. It’s even rarer for this to be good news for local money exchangers – and ideally money exchangers near me! This is good news in particular for independent travel money retailers,  travel agents with a foreign currency service, and bureaux de change. Other specialists also selling travel money, like pawnbrokers and jewellers, will also benefit.

Short, medium and long-terms gains

So what’s the fuss about? Here’s a taste of what’s to come.

The travel industry is buzzing for winter

Look online, or in a travel agent’s shop window, and you’ll see there’s plenty of activity. Winter sun holidays are as popular as ever. Charter airlines and the big tour operators remain determined to fill seats and beds. Ski resorts are busy promoting their holidays too. North America is expecting more snow than average this year, thanks to the La Niña effect. Prospects in Europe are less clear, but Scandinavia looks set for a snowy winter, and the higher resorts in Europe also expect good coverage.

Fewer scheduled flights through 2025

The airline industry has struggled with capacity since the pandemic. This is reflected in comments by both IATA and Eurocontrol – the body responsible for air traffic management in Europe. Constrained capacity is at least in part due to delayed delivery of new planes. However, it also means that flights go full or nearly so. With higher load factors prices also stay up, boosting sales of more expensive holidays.

There are still plenty of charter flights for 2025

Charter airlines are often tied into long term deals with big tour operators – some of which also have their own airlines. And big tour operators are tied into room allocations, or may even own resorts outright. To maintain profitability, airline seats and hotel rooms need to be kept full, so it’s fair to expect plenty of available holidays and promotions to match. Take the giant TUI’s approach: they are adding “300,000 seats for its Summer 2025 programme bringing the total to 10.2 million flight seats now on sale from airports across the UK.”

UK airport capacity is increasing

While airport capacity doesn’t increase overnight, this is still a good long term message for the travel industry, and for money exchangers too. It looks increasingly likely that Heathrow is expected to get its long anticipated additional runway. Stansted Airport has permission to expand, and other regional airports are also set to grow. This is either by re-developed terminal buildings (Manchester and Birmingham) or by the use of larger planes. Luton and Gatwick are still campaigning for permission to increase in size.

Why good travel news is good for money exchangers near me

Shopping locally seems a natural choice when it’s possible. So when travel options look good, I’m more likely to book a holiday and organise travel money with retailers close to home if I can. And even if I’ve booked a holiday online, I’d still like to pick up my travel money from a bureau de change or a currency exchanger near me – not half an hour’s drive away. Lots of people think the same way.

But the challenge comes in getting good value at the same time. Specifically, currency exchange rates are critical.
